MY SOUTHERN BELLE

Yes, I know the words Lexie and Southern Belle really don't go together, but she did join the local Cotillion. She told me last year she wanted to do it; but when I checked about it, it was too late to sign up. The past two weekends she attended make-up sessions to attend the manners sessions and learn the dances her age group has already learned. Last night was her first real Cotillion. All of the girls have to wear white gloves. When we arrived, there was a group of boys standing there, and their job was to open the car door for the girl and help her out of the car. When she gets to the door, a boy will open the door for her. At break time, the boy partner escorts the girl to the snack table and gets the snack and drink for her. I am very pleased with what the cotillion teaches. I know there are probably some women's libbers out there that think this is setting women back hundreds of years, but oh well. I think it's wonderful that these girls are learning how to be treated with respect and how to carry themselves, and that the boys are learning to treat girls with respect.

Lexie had a great time last night. She learned the Rumba and Electric Slide last night. (Her cotillion leader likes to do a fun line dance each time also.) Now Lexie knows how to do the Electric Slide, Hustle, Burnin' Up (a Jonas Brothers line dance), Rumba, Fox Trot, and Waltz. Who knows, maybe we will watch her on Dancing With the Stars in a few years. :-)
